Carolyn Claudette Workman Obituary

On Friday, September 6, 2024, as the sunset in the heavens, our family circle was broken again. The love and sweet spirit of our loved one Carolyn Claudette Workman, went to be with her Savior, to a home not built by man’s hands but whose maker and builder is Jesus Christ.

Carolyn Claudette Workman, daughter of the late J.W. and Lizzie Workman, was born April 11, 1950 in Richmond, VA. She attended Richmond Public Schools (Armstrong High School-class of 1968) and was an Alumna of Virginia Union University. At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Chicago Avenue Baptist Church. As a young adult, Carolyn served in the Ushers ministry, Culinary ministry, Youth and Young Adult ministries. Also, in her later years, Carolyn served as the Missionary ministry chairperson until she was unable due to her illness.

Carolyn began her career in Telecommunications during her college years. She was employed by AT&T for 20 years which allowed her to travel and live in different parts of the country. After settling in the DMV, she was employed at Howard University in the Telecommunications Department as a systems analyst until her retirement in 2015.

Carolyn loved to shop but was always generous in spirit. She would often visit the sick and shut in, purchasing clothing and toiletries for those that did not have family support. She was an avid sports fan and if there was a football game to be attended, she was there. Dallas Cowboys, being her favorite professional team. She was a great big sister (bossy at times, stubborn at times), but always there with a listening ear.

Carolyn was a breast cancer survivor and a strong and determined individual. She departed this life on Friday, September 6, 2024 at the Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, VA. She will be greatly missed by her family; sister and brother-in-love Minister Cheryl Yvette Workman-Edwards (Rev. Dr. Antoine); several nieces and nephews, devoted niece, Leslie Edwards Lewter (Jamar Sr.), as well as several great-nieces and nephews, devoted in love: Minister Helen Edwards, devoted girlfriends, Moretta “Vonnie” Husband, Gail Peterson, god-sister Rochelle Dyke and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
