Life’s Reflections

For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”       Timothy 4:6-7

Peacefully and serenely on Sunday evening January 26, 2025 at her home in the Scott’s Fork Community in Amelia County, Virginia surrounded by her family our Heavenly Father touched “Selena Booker Givens” with a final finger of love and whispered “My child, it’s time to enter your eternal home free from pain and suffering to rest from your labor.”

Selena was born in Amelia, Virginia on August 31, 1952.  She was the fifth of seven children born to the late Frank and Isabelle Holmes Booker.  She received her education in Amelia County Public Schools and was a graduating member of the Amelia County High School Class of 1972.

Early in her life, Selena accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, was baptized and became a member of the Big Oak Presbyterian Church which later became Zion Hill United Presbyterian Church.  Down through the years Selena has always remained a loyal, dedicated and supportive member of her church until her health began to decline.  One of her favorite gospel songs namely “Ride Out Your Storm” is a testament to her walk with God knowing that He alone was leading and guiding her safely to her heavenly home free from the turmoil’s of this life.

After completing her education, she obtained employment during her life’s journey at GBC Industries, Chesterfield Public Schools, and Carbone of America.

During her walk in life, she married the love of her life, Tyrone C. Givens, Sr. on November 8, 1970. From this union, they were blessed with four children: Tyrone, Jr., Michael, Melanie, and Nina.

Because of her distinct personality and character, Selena was affectionately called many names by her family and friends: “Pee Wee,” “Popeye,” “Lee Lee,” “Lena,” and just “Momma.” Selena was known to be out-spoken as well as opinionated, carefree, witty, and full of wisdom.

Selena loved working in her flower garden and doing yard work.  She loved to work crossword puzzles, study the Word of God, read the newspaper, and spend quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Overall, Selena had an appreciation for life and was very mindful of God’s Blessings. She touched the hearts of many in a very special way.  Where she lived in her community- Scott’s Fork surrounded by family and friends and where she worshipped – Zion Hill United Presbyterian Church was the essence of her being.

Selena is preceded in death by her devoted husband of fifty-two years, Tyrone Givens, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her legacy of love and friendship: four children, Tyrone Jr., Michael (Erica), Melanie (Ethan), and Nina; eleven grandchildren: Shannon, De’Shonda, Michael, Khadija, Briarna, Keyon, Malik, Destiny, Jordan, Jamie, and Ja’Qui; seventeen great-grandchildren; six siblings, Lillian Hicks (Harold), Emma Hicks, Frank Booker, Jr. (Jacqueline), Catherine Booker, Gilbert Booker, Arnold Booker (Gloria); four sisters-in-law: Mary Friend, Frances Brown, Alice Worsham (Frank), Addie Monroe (John); two bonus grandchildren: Ryanna and Ryleigh; four special friends: Alice Lee Wilkerson, Yvonne Finney, Shirley C. Booker and Catherine Goode, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
