Obituary of Braxton Booker
Please share a memory of Braxton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On the morning of February 6, 2025, 11:00 am at the McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond, Virginia, Braxton Jr. aka “Baba” heard the voice of God calling his name to leave his earthly home. He was born on February 15, 1951 to the late Braxton C, Sr. and Pearl Campbell Booker, in Amelia County.
He was educated in the public schools of Amelia and graduated from the Amelia High School in 1971.
At an early age he was baptized and joined the Manassa Hill Baptist Church. He attended regularly until he left the county. Upon returning to the county, he served as a “greeter” at the church always extending a warm handshake and cheerful smile.
After his graduation, he joined the U.S. Army in 1976. While stationed in Germany, he met and married Giesla Daheihemer (deceased) in 1978. Later he married Elizabeth Hadlock (deceased). Some of his military duty stations were Fort Ord, CA, Fort Campbell, KY, Fort Huachuca, AZ and Korea. During his military career of 22 years, he received many awards, accommodations, and medals for his bravery and service, including the Bronze Star.
Braxton was a kind-hearted and caring person who exemplified his love for his family. He showed it by driving many miles non-stop through regardless of the weather conditions to take care of especially his mother, grandmother, and others. The last time he did this, he suffered a major stroke which left him paralyzed and was placed in the care of the medical staff at McGuire Medical facilities for 12 years.
Besides his parents and both wives, he was preceded in death by stepdaughter, Petra; sister, Nannie Ross, and brother Arthur Booker.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, two brothers, Richard (Maria) Booker of Amelia, VA, and Leonard (Queenie) Booker of the Philippines; two uncles, William Campbell of Blackstone, VA, and Richard Campbell of Richmond, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
As time passes and life goes on, we learn to bear all the emotions in snyc. We smile, laugh and reminisce on all the things we shared with you, yet the ache of the grief we bear let’s us know how blessed we are to be your brothers.
