Please share a memory of Nathaniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Nathaniel (Bootney)Threatt

Uncle Bootney never met a stranger, he took joy in joking with, his nieces and nephews, and was at peace sitting in the park enjoying the serenity of God’s beautiful work.

Nathaniel Threatt was born in Amelia County Virginia to the late Mr. Robert and Mrs. Augusta Stokes Threatt on March 14, 1933. As many African American did, he moved north seeking to improve his life. Nathaniel moved to New York City at an early age and remained there until he closed his eyes in eternal rest on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the age of 92. He was one of five of siblings.

Nathaniel, affectionately known as Bootney, was a loving son and brother. Uncle Bootney had a joyful spirit, and it showed in his interactions with his nephews and nieces. Though he moved to New York at an early age, Nathaniel would occasionally return home to visit the family, and it was a joy to see. While there he spent time playing and joking with his nieces and nephews. They will always remember the joy Uncle Bootney’s visits brought them.

Nathaniel was educated in the public school system in Amelia County Virginia, and learned from life experiences God provide to him. As a young man, he worked hauling pulpwood for Charles Morman, Scotts Mill and Anderson Mill. He later located to New York City, and began working in Construction, where he spent many years.

A Good Friend of Nathaniel’s, Mr. Willie Lee Davis of Amelia, worked in pulpwood together in Amelia and later worked in the construction business together in New York. Mr. Davis stated that Nat, as he called him, never met a stranger and everyone loved him. In his leisure time, Nathaniel would sit out in the park enjoying the peace and tranquility of God’s work.

Three of Nathaniel’s siblings preceded him in eternal rest: A sister Luberta Threatt Alexander and her husband John Alexader, two brothers Robert, Jr., Benjamin Threatt and his wife Sophronia Threatt, one nephew Lawrence Threatt.

He leaves to cherish his memories: one devoted Sister and Brother in-law, Martha Threatt (Emmit) Crayton and a Special Friend Mary Osborn. His nieces and nephews; Martha Mitchell, Dallas (Samuel) Pegram, Luberta (Joe) Pegram, Benjamin (Barbara) Threatt, Sr, Betty Elliot, Jessie (James) Robinson, Sr., Nettie (Ronald) Sizemore, Gwendolyn Wright, Katherine (Vernon) Harmon, Jr, Samuel (Michelle) White, Earnest Threatt, and Marvin Threatt. His grand Nephew Benjamin Threatt, Jr. and grand Niece Bravita Threatt (Branden) Brown, who lovingly rushed to help Uncle Bootney when the family received a call that help was needed. A host of grand and great Nieces and Nephews, cousins and friends.
