Obituary of James Leon Jeter

James Leon Jeter was born February 6, 1938, in Amelia, Virginia. He was the son of the late James Alfred Jeter and the late Josephine Barley Jeter. On Sunday, June 30, 2024, James Leon Jeter passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loving family.
At an early age, James became a member of Little Union Baptist Church where he was also baptized. He was educated in Amelia Public School system and graduated from Russel Grove High School in 1957. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served with the “Hell On Wheels” unit during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He served proudly until being Honorably Discharged in 1964.
After his service in the military, he migrated to Washington, DC where he went on to work for the Government Printing Office (GPO) as a Photographer. He faithfully worked 36 years with GPO before retiring. While living in DC, he became a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church under the Pastoring of the late Rev. Charles W. Green.
James, better known to family and friends as Leon, was a loving and devoted husband to his high school sweetheart Bettie Jean Eanes of 58 years. He was the father of five children Alvin, Adelta (deceased), Andrea (deceased), Myron, Shelley (Deric) and Goddaughter Angela Randolph.
James was a loving Grandfather to Milton Lucas, Janine Bennett, Brittney Beltron (Kei), Alvin Clark II, Patrick Bennett (Jasmine), William Bennett, Cameron Clark (Marwa), Dericka Sims, Mahkai Jeter, Bobby Sims and Jordan Jeter. He was also loved by his (15) fifteen Great Grand kids.
He leaves to cherish his memories sisters Juan Conway (Phillip), Dorothy Randolph (Conell), Maxine Wingo, brother Malcolm Jeter (Carolyn), three sisters-in-law Elsie Goodman, Charlene Palmer, Dorthy Eanes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
