Obituary of Edmonia Royal Crayton
Please share a memory of Edmonia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edmonia peacefully entered into eternal rest at her residence on December 20, 2024. She was born on July 4, 1931, to the late William Cavole and Edna Royal. She was preceded in death by her late husband, John Crayton, her siblings, Amanda Scott, Raymond Cavole, James DeFarro, Elwood “Buck” Defarro, her daughter, Valorie R. Harris and her son, George Royal.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Alfreda Robinson (wife of the late Robert Robinson) Amelia, VA, William G. Royal (Alice), Richmond, VA, Gloria Royal (Donnell), Amelia, VA and son-in-law, Jerome Harris of Columbus, GA; eight grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
She attended the public schools of Amelia County, where she had to walk many miles to get to school each day. She joined the Manassa Hill Baptist Church at an early age, where she attended until her health no longer allowed her to. Her favorite hymn was “Just a Closer Walk With Thee”, often sung by her late brother-in-law, Johnny Scott. She was affectionately known by her grandchildren, as well as, her children as “Grandma”. To her siblings and friends, she was known as “Monie”. She was loving and caring to her family and was always concerned about them. She disciplined with a stern hand.
She was employed by “The Steak House and Levi’s. “Grandma” enjoyed canning and quilting. She made lovely quilts for herself and her loved ones to keep all of us warm. She also loved fashion, jewelry and just looking nice. She enjoyed visiting family, friends and going places. She did not like to just sit around.
During her last days with us, most of her words were not understandable. However, when asked how she was doing, she replied so clearly. ”I’m doing much better now!” She repeated this over and over. We knew exactly what she meant. She was ready to go home to be with the Lord.
In Our Hearts
We thought of you today. But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday, and days before that too.
We think of you in silence, we often speak your name,
Now all we have are memories, and your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake, with which we will never part.
God has you in His keeping. we have you in our hearts.
